The Christian Fellowship Church of Vietnam held a ceremony in HCM City on July 14 to receive a legal recognition from the government.

Pham Huy Tho, deputy head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, handed over the decision to the church leadership, confirming that the church will have legal rights and obligations as a religious organisation in Vietnam.

The recognition will create favourable conditions for the church to practise its belief in line with the Charter and the Ordinance on Religions and Beliefs, he said.

He expressed his hope that the church would make a greater contribution to national construction and development.

The Christian Fellowship Church of Vietnam was established in 1989 and it received a certificate for operations from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs in October 2007.

In September 2009, the church organised the first national convention for the 2009-2011 tenure, during which it adopted the Charter and elected its leadership under pastor Dinh Thien Tu.

This is the 7th Protestant organisation recognised by the State after the Ordinance on Religions and Beliefs came into effect in 2004.
