Vietnam, China bolster judicial cooperation during Prosecutor General’s visit
VOV.VN - A delegation from the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam, led by Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien, visited Beijing, China, from February 17-18 at the invitation of Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, to enhance cooperation in criminal justice and prosecution.

During the visit, Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien and the delegation paid a courtesy call to Chen Wenqing, a member of the Politburo and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC). They also held talks with Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, and met with Zhang Jun, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of China.
At the meetings, both sides expressed their pleasure that the visit coincided with the celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, in line with the traditional cultures of both countries. This also marked the beginning of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China Year of Cultural Exchange.
Speaking at the talks, Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien expressed hope that the visit would be an important milestone, demonstrating the ongoing, sustainable development of cooperation between the two Supreme People's Procuracies, especially in the fight against crime.
He emphasized that based on the traditional friendly relations and political trust, cooperation between the two prosecutorial agencies has seen significant progress and positive results.
Under the frameworks of the ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference and the Border Area Prosecutors Conference between Vietnam and China, both sides have conducted exchanges and cooperation at various levels. Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien affirmed that the Vietnam Supreme People’s Procuracy would effectively realize the high-level consensus reached by the leadership of both countries, learn from China’s experience in public interest litigation and prosecutorial reforms, and boost cooperation in criminal justice support, prosecutor training, and the development of digital systems.

In turn, Prosecutor General Ying Yong highlighted that the Prosecutor's Offices of both countries have maintained a deep friendship, regularly exchanged high-level visits, and achieved substantial cooperation with positive results.
He introduced China’s public interest litigation and prosecutorial reform efforts, reaffirming that the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China stays ready to cooperate with its Vietnamese counterpart under the strategic direction of both Parties. This cooperation will focus on transnational crime fighting, criminal justice support, prosecutor training, and exchanges between border prosecutors. He also underlined the importance of continuing to improve the ASEAN-China Prosecutors General mechanism, providing strong legal guarantees for building the China-Vietnam community of shared future.
At an earlier meeting with Chen Wenqing, Prosecutor General Tien noted that the traditional friendly relations and the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Vietnam and China have been consistently strengthened. The leadership of both Supreme People’s Procuracies also frequently coordinated and supported each other at multilateral cooperation forums, particularly the ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference and the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
Secretary Chen Wenqing said that Party General Secretary Xi Jinping and Party General Secretary To Lam had reached an important consensus on deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between China and Vietnam.
He expressed hope that both sides would further implement the important shared understandings reached by the high-level leaders, expand practical cooperation channels between the two prosecutorial agencies, and enhance the quality and effectiveness of exchanges in strengthening the rule of law and promoting justice. This would also provide legal guarantees for deepening the construction of the China-Vietnam community of shared future.
During his meeting with Zhang Jun, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of China, Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien expressed hope that the judicial agencies of both countries would continue to build mutual political trust and deepen cooperation at all levels and in various fields, bringing greater benefits to the people of both nations and strengthening the deep friendship between Vietnam and China.
For his part, Chief Justice Zhang Jun expressed hope that the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic ties would provide an opportunity to deepen exchanges and mutual learning between the judicial agencies of both countries, marking a new chapter in judicial cooperation.
As part of the visit, the delegation from the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam also held a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing.
