The Vietnamese and Chinese Ministries of Foreign Affairs have agreed to step up cooperation in organizing celebrations for the Year of Vietnam-China Friendship 2010 and preparing reciprocal visits by senior officials from the two countries later this year.

The agreement was reached between Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at a meeting in Beijing on March 30.

Both sides were resolved to make a greater effort to boost cooperation in economics, trade, and investment, to carry out the previously signed agreements and documents on common borders and to work together to settle maritime issues.

In the future, China and Vietnam will work closely together at multilateral forums and promote the exchange of theoretical knowledge between the two communist parties.

Mr Minh, who is currently visiting China from March 29 to April 1, met with the Chief of the International Liaison Department under the Chinese Communist Party, Wang Jiarui, and the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Zhang Zhijun.
