The Council has submitted a list of the nominees to the Municipal People’s Committee for approval. Among them is Prof. Vu Khieu, 94, who made great contributions to Hanoi studies and is chairman of the council on the project on Thang Long’s millennium book. He was awarded the title of Labour Hero in 2000.
Historical Prof. People’s Teacher Phan Huy Le, 67, is one of the leading experts on Vietnam’s history. He devoted his life to the study of Hanoi history. His efforts as chief author of the compiled documents of the Thang Long Royal Citadel, Phu Dong Festival and the Doctorate stele at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi were highly applauded by UNESCO.
Born in 1926, researcher Nguyen Vinh Phuc has studied and written books about Hanoi for more than 50 years. Readers in Hanoi and the whole country call him the “Hanoiologist”.
Hoang Vinh Giang, 64, has made significant contributions to training international-standard athletes, coaches and referees of Hanoi. He was conferred with the title of Labour Hero in 2005.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, who works for Hanoi Moi newspaper, initiated and implemented the ceramic road project along the Red River four years ago. Her unique idea has received support of dozens of local and foreign painters, hundreds of artisans from ceramic craft villages as well as 500 Vietnamese and international children. Artisans are putting the finishing touches to the project as a special gift to the capital city on its millennium anniversary this October.
The 10 outstanding citizens will be honoured at the Hanoi municipal patriotism emulation congress for 2010-2015, scheduled for August 28 at the Hanoi Friendship Palace.
