Canal Caribe highlights Vietnam’s historic victory

Marking Vietnam's 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025), Canal Caribe, a television channel in Cuba, broadcast a special report honouring the historic significance of Vietnam’s national reunification, underlining enduring lesson of national solidarity.

Opening with the images of Ho Chi Minh City adorned with flags and flowers in celebration, the report captured the city’s festive spirit as it prepared to mark five decades since the North and South were reunified.

Reporter Wilmer Rodríguez Fernández noted that the city, named after the late Vietnamese leader, was filled with joy and pride on this historic occasion.

The four-minute segment provided viewers with a brief overview of Vietnam’s historical journey, recalling the country’s division following the 1954 Geneva Accords, the arduous resistance war against the US, and the historic victory on April 30, 1975.

Canal Caribe featured a local Vietnamese resident who shared that April 30 would forever be a source of national pride, symbolising the peace and development that the country enjoys today.

Particularly moving was an interview with revolutionary veteran Hoang Thi Khan, a former prisoner at the infamous Con Dao prison. She emotionally recounted that the victory of April 30 had brought freedom and a brighter future for the entire nation. She noted that during these commemorative days, people from across the country gather in Ho Chi Minh City to reflect on their proud history.

Concluding the feature, Canal Caribe emphasised that even half a century later, the victory of April 30, 1975, remains a powerful testament to the truth that no imperial power can prevail against the unity and determination of a nation fighting for its independence and freedom.
