State President Truong Tan Sang made this statement in Hanoi on November 28 at a reception for Prince Frederic of Denmark who is currently visiting Vietnam to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
President Sang welcomed Prince Frederic to Vietnam, saying the visit is a milestone in bilateral relationship. He also thanked the Danish people, government and royal family for their assistance to Vietnam over the past 40 years.
He emphasized that Vietnam is working hard towards increasing the quality of growth, therefore it needs to learn from the experiences of developed countries, including Denmark.
President Sang expressed his hope that Denmark will continue to support and cooperate with Vietnam in green growth and adapting to climate change, as well as promoting sustainable energy.
Prince Frederic said he is very impressed by Vietnam’s land, people and development achievements. He added that Denmark wants to share experiences in education and training with Vietnam and that many Danish businesses hope to boost cooperation with Vietnamese partners.
He also invited President Sang to visit Denmark.
Earlier, Prince Frederic met with Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan who briefed him on Vietnam’s recent socio-economic development.
Ms Doan thanked Denmark for its official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in recent years, which has helped the country fulfill Millennium Development Goals, especially the poverty reduction goal. She said she hopes Denmark will continue to provide ODA to Vietnam in the future, focusing on climate change adaptation, scientific research and development of environmentally friendly technologies.
Ms Doan and Prince Frederic expressed their satisfaction with the bilateral strategic partnership on climate change, environmental protection, renewable energy and green growth.
After the meeting, they witnessed the signing of four important cooperative documents on safe water supplies and rural environmental sanitation; maritime protection; building a quality management system and protecting intellectual property rights; and public management and administrative reforms in 2012-2015.
*** At a reception for Prince Frederik on the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung spoke highly of the Danish guest’s visit and said that the visit will help deepen bilateral cooperative relations in all aspects.
PM Dung stated that Vietnam always remembers Denmark’s assistance, especially its provision of over US$1 billion in ODA for the Southeast Asian country.
He said that Vietnam attaches importance to boosting cooperation with Denmark in areas of the two sides’ strengths, such as trade, investment, ODA and human resource development.
He suggested the Danish Royal Family and government continue support for Vietnam by providing more ODA, scholarships for Vietnamese students and assisting in response to climate change and rising sea levels.
Prince Frederik said Vietnam has become a more attractive destination for Danish tourists and investors and in 2010, more than 20,000 Danes visited Vietnam.
After the reception, PM Dung and Prince Frederik witnessed the signing of the Vietnam-Denmark Joint Statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership in climate change, environment, energy and green growth.
On the same day, the Danish Prince visited and presented gifts to disadvantaged children at Birla Children’s Village in Hanoi.
*** On the same day Prince Frederic also attended a meeting to mark 40 years of Vietnam-Denmark diplomatic ties.
As one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam, Denmark has cooperated with the country in all fields, said Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, adding that he hopes their partnership will continue to strengthen for mutual benefits of the two peoples.
The Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr, appreciated Vietnam’s progress in recent years and said Vietnam is a rapidly growing country and a long-term partner in the Danish cooperation programme.
She revealed that both countries will sign a joint statement on green growth, the environment and climate change adaptation on this occasion.
