Brazilian and Vietnamese political parties boost ties

VOV.VN - A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), led by Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member and secretary of the Party Central Committee, paid a working visit to Brazil from August 26 to August 27 with the aim of fostering and expanding relations with political parties in the South American country, as well as promoting the comprehensive partnership between the two sides.

During the visit, Nghia, who is also the head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, held talks and meetings with Luisiana Santos, president of the Communist Party of Brazil; Gleisi Hoffmann, president of Brazil’s Workers Party; Carlos Lupin, president of the Democratic Labour Party; Celso Amorim, advisor to the Brazilian President; and Ignacio Arruda, president of the Brazil - Vietnam Friendship Association.

At the meetings, Nghia showed his thanks to the people, as well as to the leftist, communist, and progressive forces of Brazil for the solidarity, friendship, and support that they gave Vietnam in the past struggle for liberation and national reunification, as well as to national building and safeguarding at present.

He hailed achievements that the nation has obtained after nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi (renewal), affirming that the country continues to implement a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, co-operation, development, diversification and multilateralisation of international relations. This is along with attaching importance to developing traditional friendly and co-operative relations with neighbouring countries, major global powers, and traditional friendly countries, including Latin American nations.

Leaders of the Brazilian political parties congratulated the Vietnamese side on its important achievements recorded in recent times, especially in socio-economic development, Party building, and foreign affairs, going on to express their belief that the nation will continue to obtain even greater achievements in the renewal process and successfully carry out the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, considering this to be a valuable example and lesson for political parties in Brazil and Latin America.

They affirmed that they will closely co-ordinate with the nation in promoting the effective implementation of joint statements and agreements between high-ranking leaders of the two countries and continue to offer mutual support at international and regional forums as they strive to deal with global challenges given the extremely complicated developments in the world situation.

Nghia and the leaders of the Communist Party and the Workers' Party of Brazil signed a co-operative agreement for the 2024 to 2029 period to contribute to strengthen and promote the Vietnam-Brazil relationship on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, equality, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Both sides concurred to continue to deepen the traditional friendship, solidarity, comprehensive co-operation, and political trust between the Parties, the two States, and peoples of the two countries, bringing benefits to the people of each sides as a contribution to peace, stability, co-operation, and development in each region and the world.

They pledged to step up communication work, effectively implement agreements, create breakthroughs in collaboration in economics, trade, investment, science and technology and innovation, encourage people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and closely co-ordinate and support each other at multilateral forums.

While in Brazil, the delegation attended an international conference on President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam-Latin America relations, held working sessions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services and visited the Vietnamese Embassy and some economic and cultural establishments in Brazil.
