National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the southern province of Ben Tre to uphold its revolutionary spirit in the current process of national construction and defence.

On April 27, the NA leader and his delegation paid a working visit to the southern province of Ben Tre on the 35th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam.

Visiting Dinh Thuy commune, Mo Cay Nam district, the cradle of the Dong Khoi Ben Tre movement, they paid tribute at a monument to 506 martyrs and 36 heroic mothers.

He met and presented gifts to elderly revolutionary veterans, hero mothers, and families, who rendered great service to the nation.

He visited the An Thanh – Khanh Thanh Tan craft village in Mo Cay Nam district, which produces coco fibre. He also paid a call at Binh Thang commune in Binh Dai district, which has great potential for aquaculture and fishing.

Chairman Trong congratulated local authorities and people on their achievements in promoting socio-economic development, poverty reduction and caring for their families, which have rendered great service to the nation.

He asked the province to focus on agriculture and choose suitable plants and animals for each locality in order to bring about economic efficiency. He highlighted the successful model of growing black shrimp in marshy and salted areas as a replacement for growing low-yield rice in the province.

Besides creating favourable conditions for economic sectors to develop, the NA leader told the province to pay special attention to Party building.

Finally, Trong expressed his wish that Ben Tre people continue to join hands to build the nation.
