Ba Ria – Vung Tau strives to increase per capita incomes to US$11,500
Ba Ria – Vung Tau should uphold the spirit of solidarity and make a greater effort to boost socio-economic development and ensure defence and security, said Party Politburo member Ho Duc Viet at the 5th congress of the provincial Party Committee.
According to the congress’s political report, over the past five years, Ba Ria - Vung Tau enjoyed an economic growth rate of 17.78 percent with per capita income reaching US$5,800 (VND110 million) and its poverty rate falling to 0.5 percent. Export turnover, excluding crude oil, reached US$4 billion and the industry and service sectors now account for 96 percent of the province’s economy.
Security and social order were also maintained, said the report.

The congress targeted a future economic growth rate of 14 percent, increasing per capita income to US$11,500, creating 170,000 new jobs, and focusing more on environmental protection and security.
Speaking at the congress, attended by 299 delegates representing 13,000 Party members in the province, Mr. Viet highlighted the province’s achievements in the past five years.
Mr. Viet, who is also Chairman of the Central Committee Commission for Organisation, pointed out the province’s shortcomings and asked the province’s Party committees, authorities, soldiers, and people to join efforts to speed up growth and contribute to the nation’s construction and defence.
** On the same day, the Yen Bai provincial Party Committee opened its 17th congress attended by Party Politburo member Truong Tan Sang.
The Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Hoang Xuan Loc, said that in the next five years, Yen Bai will focus on improving the leadership and capacity of the Party Committee and mobilise all resources to make it the most developed province in the northwestern region.
Yen Bai will do its best to make the province the economic and cultural centre of the northwestern region by 2020, said Loc.
