The Austrian Consulate General opened in Ho Chi Minh City at No. 8, Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, on May 5.
The Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam, Johannes Peterlik, said that the office will provide assistance to Austrian citizens in the city and help promote trade, investment, culture and education ties between the two countries.
Relations between the two countries have developed well since they established their diplomatic ties in 1972. Austria has provided Vietnam with official development assistance (ODA) in health care, education and transport, and has awarded scholarships to Vietnamese students.
Two-way trade turnover increased from nearly 100 million EUR in 2007 to 360 million EUR in 2008.
