Australian Governor-General set to begin State visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn and her spouse are scheduled to arrive in Hanoi on September 9 to pay a four-day State visit through September 12, at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his spouse.

The visit comes after the two countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation across a variety of fields.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam said,“The State visit to Vietnam by Governor-General Sam Mostyn demonstrates Australia’s consistent policy of valuing and giving high priority to relations with Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
For Vietnam, welcoming the Governor-General contributes to implementing the Party and State’s foreign policy of attaching importance to ties with countries in the South Pacific region, especially Australia,” Ambassador Tam added.
Australia is currently Vietnam’s seventh-largest trading partner, while Vietnam ranks as Australia’s tenth-largest. Bilateral trade has grown steadily, reaching more than US$14 billion in 2024. The two sides have also been active in opening their markets to each other’s agricultural products.
As of the first half of 2025, Australia had 864 investment projects in Vietnam with total registered capital of US$3.38 billion, while Vietnam had 93 projects in Australia worth US$551 million. Key investment sectors include manufacturing and processing, information and communications, and hospitality services.
Australia is among Vietnam’s largest bilateral providers of non-refundable ODA. Over the past 50 years since diplomatic ties were established, Australia has provided Vietnam with more than AUD3 billion (around US$1.97 billion) in aid. In March 2025, Australia announced an ODA package for Vietnam worth AUD96.6 million (over US$63 million) for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.
According to Ambassador Pham Hung Tam, during the visit Governor-General Sam Mostyn is scheduled to hold talks with President Luong Cuong and meet other senior Party and State leaders. She will also meet with leaders of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, attend the Vietnam–Australia Forum 2025, attend the inauguration of the Australia–Vietnam Policy Institute, and visit Ho Chi Minh City.
The State visit to Vietnam by Governor-General Sam Mostyn will further consolidate and enhance strategic trust between the two countries, while contributing to peace, stability and development in the region. It will also help promote a closer image of Vietnam to the Australian people.
