Australian Governor-General hails remarkable progress in bilateral ties with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn has applauded the positive development in relations with Vietnam, especially progress in trade, education, and bilateral cooperation, and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to support Vietnam’s development.

Continuing the official visit to Australia on September 19, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission led a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam to meet with Governor-General Sam Mostyn; meet with Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory Andrew Barr; hold talks with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Sarah Storey; and work with the leadership of the Australian National University.

Welcoming Nguyen Trong Nghia and the Vietnamese delegation, Sam Mostyn expressed her pleasure at her first visit to Vietnam in early September in her capacity as Governor-General of Australia, emphasizing that these visits vividly reflect the depth and warmth of relations between the peoples of the two countries.

The Governor-General and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade praised the positive development in bilateral trade, tourism, and education; recognized the role and contributions of the Vietnamese community in Australia; affirmed that Australia remains a reliable partner of Vietnam; and pledged to support and accompany Vietnam in its future development efforts.

Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory Andrew Barr highlighted Canberra as a political and diplomatic center, with strong development in health, services, and scientific fields, and regarded it as Australia’s education capital. He expressed his hope to implement specific cooperation projects with Hanoi and other Vietnamese localities during his visit to Vietnam in early 2026, particularly in education, training, trade, tourism, and urban planning.

During the meeting with Nguyen Trong Nghia, leaders of the Australian National University praised Vietnam’s Party-led education and training development orientation and expressed readiness to support Vietnam in advancing science and technology, promoting innovation, developing fundamental sciences, and improving human resource quality through scholarships for Vietnamese students and researchers to study in Australia.

Nghia also conveyed greetings from Vietnamese leaders to Governor-General Sam Mostyn and emphasized that Vietnam places great importance on developing relations with Australia, hoping both sides will bolster cooperation across multiple areas.

He also thanked the Australian government and people for their continuous support  for Vietnam’s renewal and development process, and urged both sides to actively coordinate in effectively carrying out  existing high-level agreements and cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Action Program for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2024-2027; to further ramp up cooperation in security, defence, economic connectivity, trade, and breakthrough cooperation in human resources, education, and science and technology, thus bringing practical benefits to both peoples and contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
