Australia elevates ties with Vietnam to higher level

VOV.VN - Senior Australian officials have hailed Vietnam’s dynamic development and active role in Southeast Asia and voiced their willingness to take bilateral ties to new heights.

During separate meetings with visiting Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue on July 25, Australian counterpart Banarby Joyce and Trade Minister Steven Ciobo said that Australia will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese fruit and fresh shrimp to penetrate the local market.

They pledged Official Development Assistance (ODA) to help Vietnam in climate change response, human resource development, and gender equality. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the region.

They advocated settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, respecting diplomatic and legal process, refraining from unilateral acts that may fuel tensions, and implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) toward achieving a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The Vietnamese and Australian officials underscored the need to enhance cooperation to seek suitable orientations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership and speed up the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

The same day, before ending his three-day visit to Australia, Deputy PM Hue visited the Innovation Xchange run by the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is an initiative of Minister Julie Bishop to enhance the efficiency of development support projects and programmes that Australia operates in the Indian Ocean and Pacific regions.
