The event was part of the 28th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting from July 19-23.
The SOME-Russia drew the participation of senior officials from Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the host nation, Vietnam.
Delegates agreed on strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and Russia. They also discussed and adopted an ASEAN-Russia energy cooperation programme for the 2010-2015 period.
The SOME-Russia participants made proposals for renewable and clean energy between ASEAN and Russia in 2010. These proposals namely addressed establishment of an experts’ network on renewable energy, a seminar of nuclear power, and an ASEAN-Russia economic conference and energy exhibition.
Participants agreed to support the third activity, and also to support the remaining two activities in principle. They suggested the Russian side continue working with the ASEAN Secretariat to make unanimous agreements about how to carry out those activities.
