Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on December 18 attended ASEAN+1 summits with China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

These meetings were focused on reviewing the relationship between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its partners and devising ways to boost bilateral cooperation. ASEAN partners all reaffirmed their policy of strengthening ties with the bloc and supporting it in building an ASEAN Community, boosting connectivity, and maintaining its key role in the region.

During the ASEAN-China summit, which marked the 20th anniversary of their dialogue partnership, ASEAN and Chinese leaders reviewed the implementation of the ASEAN-China action plans and the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity.

They also issued an ASEAN-China joint statement and attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China Center.

At the ASEAN-Japan meeting, both sides examined the implementation of the “Tokyo Declaration for the Dynamic and Enduring ASEAN-Japan Partnership in the New Millennium”. They were expected to approve a joint statement to reinforce the strategic partnership for peace, stability, and prosperity; as well as the 2011-2015 action plan.

While working with the RoK, the two sides expressed their belief that the establishment of the ASEAN-RoK strategic partnership in October 2010 will continue providing fresh impetus for deepening bilateral cooperation in all fields.

** Also on November 18, PM Dung and ASEAN leaders attended the 14th ASEAN+3 summit with China, Japan and the RoK during which they reviewed the implementation of ASEAN+3 Cooperation Work Plan, developed future cooperation programmes and considered the report by the East Asia Vision Group.
