This conference will lay the ground work for the first ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+) which will take place in Hanoi in October.

At the meeting’s opening ceremony, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Defence, lieutenant-general Nguyen Chi Vinh, highlighted the success of the fourth ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM4) held in Hanoi recently. At ADMM4, the ministers agreed to organised ADMM Plus which will include, in addition to ASEAN’s 10 Defence Minister, ministers from eight ASEAN partners.

ADMM is expected to map out a new cooperative model for security and defense between ASEAN and other key nations.
