State President Nguyen Minh Triet presented and posthumously conveyed the Gold Star Order to those army generals who had made great contributions to the cause of national liberation, reunification, construction and defence.

Awardees included (i) General Nguyen Quyet, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the State Council and former chairman of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army; (ii) late General Doan Khue, former member of the Party’s Political Bureau, former Vice Secretary of the Military Party Committee and former Minister of Defence, (iii) late General Hoang Van Thai, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Commander-in-chief of the Vietnam People’s Army and former Deputy Minister of Defence, (iv) late General Le Trong Tan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Commander-in-chief of the Vietnam People’s Army and former Deputy Minsiter of Defence, and (v) late Senior Lieutenant General Dam Quang Trung, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the State Council and former chairman of the National Assembly’s Nationality Committee.

Mr Triet highlighted the glorious victories of the Vietnamese army and people in the past decades, which were closely linked to the names of those generals. He asked cadres and soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army to follow the predecessors’ examples and actively respond to the current movement “studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” with the aim of building a modern and regular force to meet the country’s requirements in the new situation.
