A Vietnamese army delegation led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Khac Nghien, chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, concluded a four-day visit to Malaysia on June 27.

He held talks with the Malaysian military chief, General Abdul Aziz Zainal, on measures to boost the implementation of an agreement on national defence cooperation signed by the two countries’ Ministers of National Defence last year.

They agreed to conduct joint sea patrols to ensure security at sea and deal with the issue related to Vietnamese fishing vessels seized by the Malaysian authority in the spirit of friendship and humanitarianism.

They agreed that Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei should work closely to seek rational measures to settle maritime disputes among concerned parties.

Both host and guest shared the view that the two countries’ navies should increase their reciprocal visits to share experience and promote friendship.

During his stay, Mr Nghien had a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese representative missions in Malaysia

Ambassador Hoang Trong Lap said that the embassy is preparing for an official visit to Malaysia by State President, scheduled for later this year.

By the end of 2008, Malaysia is Vietnam’s second biggest investor, pouring a total of US$14.8 billion into Vietnam.
