During the visit, the two commanders-in-chief exchanged their views on the possibility of training their officers and setting up a communications channel to share information on issues of mutual concern. They also discussed measures to increase cooperation in national defence between the two armies.
They expressed their desire to sign an agreement on national defence cooperation as soon as possible to carry out joint activities, including joint patrols along common maritime boundaries.
Mr Nghien appreciated Indonesia’s goodwill in settling issues related to Vietnamese fishermen seized recently by Indonesia and hoped that the two countries will continue to deal with similar issues in the spirit of traditional friendship and humanitarianism.
While staying in Indonesia, Mr Nghien visited the Special Force Command of the Indonesian Army (Kopassus) and Air Combat Command No1, and also paid a courtesy visit to Hydayat Nur Wahid, president of the People’s Consultative Assembly.
