Armenia, Vietnam enhance defence cooperation

VOV.VN - General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, on April 22 received Armenian Ambassador to Vietnam Suren Baghdasaryan in Hanoi.

Expressing confidence that Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan will have a successful tenure, contributing to further deepening Vietnam-Armenia relations, General Phan Van Giang said the two countries have enjoyed a traditional friendship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, and relations are seeing positive development.

He thanked Armenia, formerly part of the Soviet Union, for its support and assistance to Vietnam during its struggle for national independence and reunification, particularly in training thousands of Vietnamese scientific and technical personnel.

To honour Soviet military experts who supported Vietnam, the Ministry of National Defence has built a monument to Vietnam-Soviet Union friendship and solidarity at the Vietnam Military History Museum. He invited Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan to visit the monument at a suitable time.

At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang hailed the results of Vietnam-Armenia defence cooperation in recent years in areas such as defence industry and humanitarian mine clearance, and proposed that the two sides coordinate to implement key areas of cooperation, including intensifying the exchange of delegations at all levels, defence industry cooperation and training.

On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang invited Armenia’s Ministry of Defence to send delegations of leaders and defence industry enterprises to attend and display products at the third Vietnam International Defence Expo, scheduled for December 2026.

Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan welcomed Vietnam’s growing role in the international arena and said Armenia is ready to boost cooperation with Vietnam in various fields, including defence. He added that in his capacity, he will work to strengthen bilateral relations in general and defence cooperation in particular in a more effective and practical manner.
