An Giang province hosts sixth border conference with Cambodia
VOV.VN - The sixth version of an international conference on building a shared border of peace, friendship, and co-operation for development between Vietnam and Cambodia took place on September 20 in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
Hosted by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland, the event saw the attendance of representatives from 10 Vietnamese provinces bordering Cambodia.
The purpose of the occasion is to review the performance of both sides, to further intensify ties of solidarity, friendship, and co-operation, whilst promoting experience exchanges between them.
As part of his opening remarks, Le Tien Chau, vice chairman and secretary-general of the VFF Central Committee, said the special solidarity and comprehensive partnership that exists between both sides has been reinforced and expanded, thereby contributing to the cause of national construction and safeguarding each country.
Chau therefore urged the two counties to further strengthen transport connectivity and increase investment by developing infrastructure at border gates.
By sides should also focus efforts in searching for and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died while on duty in Cambodia during the historical conflicts. This should be done alongside better popularising legal documents on the shared border signed between the two nations in order to pave the way for the completion of the border demarcation and marker planting, he added. At present work is now 84% completed.
He also called on both sides to continue encouraging and connecting Vietnamese and Cambodian investors in order to develop infrastructure, economic zones, and shopping centres at border gates and checkpoints, along with promoting tourism in order to benefit the two peoples.
