Ample room for Vietnam-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Indonesia share ample room for cooperation in the electric vehicle ecosystem, energy transition, green economy, digital economy, high-tech agriculture, halal industry, maritime cooperation, and sustainable fisheries-fields that can contribute to green transition goals and deeper integration into regional and global supply chains.

This was affirmed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong in his speech at the reception celebrating the 81st National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945-September 2, 2026), hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia on the evening of September 16.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ta Van Thong recalled the historic milestone of September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square.

According to the Ambassador, Vietnam's 81-year journey has been marked by major challenges alongside significant achievements. From an impoverished and under-developed nation, Vietnam has emerged as a major, highly open economy and an active, responsible member of the international community. The Vietnamese diploma emphasized new growth drivers based on science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

Regarding bilateral relations, Ambassador Ta Van Thong said that ties are flourishing on the foundation of political trust and increasingly substantive cooperation, particularly following the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2025.

The two countries are expanding cooperation in defence, security, and transnational crime prevention while boosting cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, alongside enhancing transport connectivity and direct air routes.

On economic cooperation, the Ambassador stressed that building on obtained achievements, both nations are striving toward a bilateral trade target of US$18 billion by 2028.

Large-scale investment projects, including VinFast’s EV manufacturing plant in Subang and Ciputra Group’s projects in Vietnam, are expected to generate spillover effects for supporting industries and bilateral trade.

Vietnam consistently remembers the support and assistance extended by the government and people of Indonesia during past struggles for national independence as well as current national development, viewing this as an invaluable foundation for both nations to continuously reinforce friendly relations and cooperation for the peace and prosperity of their peoples, Thong went on.

Speaking at the event, Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin extended his warmest congratulations to the government and people of Vietnam on the 81st National Day.

He underscored that Indonesia and Vietnam share numerous similarities. Both are Southeast Asian nations with histories of fighting for independence, rich cultural traditions, and a shared regard for self-reliance, cooperation, and regional solidarity.

The celebration took place in a solemn and warm atmosphere. Delegates toasted to Vietnam’s continued development and prosperity, the enduring bilateral friendship, and the growing prosperity and happiness of both nations’ people.
