AIPA’s role strengthened in regional cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy
VOV.VN - The Committee on National Defence, Security and Foreign Affairs, the Standing Board of the 15th-tenure Vietnamese Young National Assembly Deputies Group, in coordination with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretariat co-hosted the “AIPA Roadshow in Vietnam” in Hanoi on August 25.

In opening remarks, Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Policy and Strategy Commission and Chairman of the Young Parliamentarians Group, said the event carried special significance, amplifying the message Party General Secretary To Lam delivered at the 45th AIPA General Assembly.
He stressed that as ASEAN moves toward the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the bloc must be dynamic, resilient, innovative, and people-centered; AIPA–ASEAN cooperation must be closely linked and mutually reinforcing, with ASEAN cooperation as the foundation and AIPA cooperation as the driving force.
Nguyen Anh Tuan added that ASEAN and AIPA are entering a new phase of development that requires young parliamentarians to strengthen political will, enhance expertise, and help build a modern legal system grounded in national realities in line with international standards.
He underlined the aspiration to build a strong, prosperous nation by linking innovation with the development of science and technology, the digital economy, the green economy, and the circular economy, while promoting cultural soft power, preserving national identity, and showcasing Vietnamese values globally.
The roadshow gave young parliamentarians across the region an opportunity to exchange experience and initiatives, deepen cooperation, and contribute to building a stronger, more innovative, and more prosperous ASEAN. It also allowed Vietnamese youth to engage directly with international peers, while reaffirming the key role of the younger generation in building a united, creative, and sustainable ASEAN.
Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, affirmed that youth are the core force for realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
With nearly 220 million young people, about one-third of ASEAN’s population, youth are a vital resource for each nation’s socio-economic development and the continued growth of the ASEAN Community. He emphasized that, amid Vietnam’s strong push for integration, innovation, and scientific-technological development, young people must lead with creativity, courage, national identity, and global-integration capacity.
AIPA Secretary General Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman praised the event and recalled the strong impression left by the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, hosted by Vietnam in Hanoi in 2023, calling it a prime example of creating an open forum that promotes youth participation in parliaments and ensures their voices are heard in global decision-making.
The AIPA Roadshow in Vietnam was held for the first time and forms part of AIPA’s 2018–2025 communication plan and 2023–2030 strategic plan. The initiative aims to raise young people’s awareness of ASEAN and AIPA, with a focus on youth, university students, and outstanding young representatives.
Through dialogue, exchanges, and sharing, the event reaffirmed AIPA’s role in boosting regional cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy and strengthened connections with ASEAN youth in the integration process.
