Over the past 80 years, under the CPV’s leadership, Vietnamese people have made firm steps forwards on the path of independence and socialism.
80 years is just a short period compared to the thousand-year history of building and defending the nation but it was a period marked by prominent events which brought our people from slavery into freedom, turning them from those who lost their nation into sovereign people masters and from a backward nation to the one that enjoys a better and peaceful life.
The past 80 years was a crucial period of the Vietnamese revolution under the CPV’s leadership. During the period, Vietnam had to overcome numerous difficulties and challenges. Every time, Vietnam overcame a hardship, it created at the same time a historic landmark of a glorious victory.
The success of the August Revolution which defended the people’s first Southeast Asian administration was one of them. Despite the exhausted economy, the poverty and illiteracy, and hostile schemes to overthrow the then young revolutionary administration, the boat of the Vietnamese revolution was up hill and down dale to weather every difficulty. This was demonstrated by the landslide victory of the two lengthy and hard wars of resistance against foreign invaders to liberate the South of Vietnam and unify the nation. This opened an era of independence, freedom and advancement toward socialism.
The great achievements have contributed to national construction and defence, building a law-governed socialist State which is of the people, by the people and for the people, forming a socialist-oriented market economy and strengthening national identity of a culture that has acquired the quintessence of the mankind’s culture. All this resulted in an all-the-people national defence of territorial sovereignty and stability.
The impressive renewal achievements were made in the extremely difficult circumstance of the embargoes imposed by imperialist nations and the fall of socialism in Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union. However, our country has stood firm to ensure a steady socio-economic development and political stability, helping the national economy recover from the global economic crisis and improve people’s living standards.
There is no denying that the renewal achievements made by all the people over the past years have added fresh impetus to national development and international integration.
Vietnam’s international relations have been expanded, especially with regional and major countries in the world, traditional friends and strategic partners.
In recent years, Vietnam has actively participated in regional and international forums and organisations with full responsibility, became a full WTO member, performed well its role as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and contributed to building the ASEAN community. The country’s international status has been elevated, facilitating the process of national construction and defence.
The victories of the Vietnamese Revolution during the past 80 years are a vivid testimony to the marvelous strength of our nation rooted in the CPV’s clear-sighted leadership, patriotism, self-reliant spirit and creative power of its people. This confirms that the CPV’s leadership is indispensable and decisive to all revolutionary successes.
The CPV is a combination of national strength, Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, patriotism and valuable national traditions which have enabled the country to move forwards.
The CPV based on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts is a vanguard of wisdom, showing the strong spirit of the working class and the whole nation.
Eighty years with the Party is 80 years brimming with confidence and love while showing close relations between the people and the Party. For this reason, Vietnamese people with the great affection call the CPV “our Party”.
