The radio station was set up at the decree by late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong to represent the government in the south-central region.
The station was located at Tho Loc commune, Ton Dinh village, Truong Quang Trong district, Le Trung Dinh province. This was the second radio station after Radio Voice of Vietnam which was previously established in Hanoi.
Since its inception, Radio Voice of Southern Vietnam broadcast in both Vietnamese and French, reflecting war news domestically and internationally. It aired many commentaries that exposed the crimes of the then French colonialists in Vietnam, helped disseminate the lines of the Party and Government and encouraged social groups to take part in the resistance war.
Participants in the commemoration ceremony said that Radio Voice of Southern Vietnam played an important role in national liberation.
