The 27th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) opened in Da Nang City on May 27.

The event drew the participation of ministers of transport from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and dialogue partners, including China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

At the meeting, Vietnam was chosen as president of STOM and Brunei as vice-president of STOM. 

The 27th STOM updated the implementation of the ASEAN Charter, discussed the overall plan for the ASEAN Economic Community and finalised procedures for signing ASEAN transport agreements among member countries.

Delegates also discussed ways to build the ASEAN Transport Strategy for 2011-2015 period, considered documents scheduled to be signed and adopted at the ministerial-level conference at the end of 2009 between ASEAN and such dialogue partners as China, Japan, the RoK, the European Union and India.

The meeting will last until May 29.
