11th Vietnam Fatherland Front Congress affirms new role and mode of operation

VOV.VN - The 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front with the theme “Solidarity - Democracy - Innovation - Creativity - Development,” officially opened in Hanoi on May 12, with the organization’s first congress affirming its role and new mode of operation.

Party General Secretary and President To Lam attended the opening session, along with incumbent and former Party and State leaders, including former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former Presidents Truong Tan Sang and Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, former Prime Ministers Nguyen Tan Dung and Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, and other senior officials.

In her opening speech, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and central mass organizations, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee for the 10th tenure, said the organization had continued to renew its operational methods during the 2024-2026 period under the leadership of the Party and with close coordination from the State, Government, National Assembly and the unity of the people.

The VFF had enhanced its role in reinforcing national unity, participating in Party and administration building, improving the quality and effectiveness of supervision and social criticism, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the people, promoting democracy and strengthening social consensus, Hoai emphasized.

According to her,  the Front also played an active role in coordinating with relevant agencies to propose and refine mechanisms and policies, including active participation in the drafting process and public consultation on the draft resolution amending and supplementing several articles of the Constitution, as well as preparations for the elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

The organization also mobilized public participation in patriotic emulation movements and provided timely support to people affected by natural disasters, storms and floods, particularly poor and vulnerable groups, she added.

The congress is taking place as Vietnam enters a new development period with both opportunities and challenges, while pursuing the goal of building an independent and self-reliant economy alongside deeper international integration.

Described as an important political and social event, the congress has captured major attention from people across the country and overseas Vietnamese communities. It is also the first congress of the VFF operating under the organization’s new model.

Delegates are expected to review the implementation of the Front’s 2024-2026 action program, discuss directions and objectives for the 2026-2031 term, amend and supplement the organization’s charter, and reach consensus on leadership positions for the new tenure.

The VFF leader called on delegates to uphold responsibility, solidarity and collective wisdom in discussing congress documents and contributing proposals to help improve the effectiveness of the Front in the new revolutionary period.
