Vu Lan Festival held in Danang’s Marble Mountain relic site

VOV.VN - Thousands of Buddhist followers gathered together on August 10 in and around the Ngu Hanh Son, also known as Marble Mountain, relic site to celebrate the Vu Lan Festival, also known as the All Souls Festival, which is held annually on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month.

A representative from Ngu Hanh Son district beats the drum to signal the start of the festival.
Large numbers of both local residents and tourists are in attendance at the event.
Performers take part in a parade as part of the opening ceremony.
Thousands of Buddhist followers flock to the Marble Mountain relic site to show their appreciation and gratitude to both their parents and ancestors.
The annual festival is held on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar year.
To mark their participation in the event, Buddhist followers pay visits to pagodas and temples where they offer food, clothes and other items to ghosts and hungry spirits. In addition to this, they also release animals such as birds or fish.
A bunch of balloons are released into the sky as a symbol of peace.
Works of calligraphy are showcased throughout the festival.
The wearing of red and white roses is a traditional part of celebrations at the Vu Lan Festival.
 
 
Participants wear roses on their shirts at the festival. Those who wear red roses do to signal their mother is still alive, whilst those wearing white roses do so for their mothers who have passed away.
