Peach trees under threat of crop failure
Thursday, 17:15, 10/01/2013
(VOV) - The prolonged cold spell has dealt a heavy blow to peach farming in Hanoi’s Nhat Tan flower village, prompting local growers to cover the trees with nylon bags and switch on light bulbs inside to keep them warm.
Peach trees are a favourite with northerners during the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, but Hanoi’s peach growers are worried that if the current cold spell lasts longer than expected, peach trees will not be blossoming in time for the event.
The growers expect that the weather will be warmer next week, or they may face a crop failure.
