(VOV) -Tourists’ often say Sapa’s rice terraces look like a stairway to heaven, presenting a marvellous swirl of abstract colour and patterns.

Located 38km from Lao Cai City, Sapa is a mountainous district of Lao Cai Province. At the height of 1,600m above sea level, the average temperature of the area is 15-18°C. It is cool in summer and very cold in winter.


Sapa is also famous for its love market, which takes place on Saturday evenings. The market is the place to find a partner to get married. 


The Sapa stone church has been nominated as one of the five best-known over 100-year-old churches. It was built in the early 20th century on an area of 6,000sq.m with Roman Gothic architectural style, which is clearly seen in its pyramid-shaped roof, bell tower and dome. Situated in the centre of the resort town, the church has a 20m bell tower with a 500-kg bell.

Being shaped like a dragon’s head dimly looming in the thin veil of the early morning, Ham Rong (Dragon Jaw) Mountain is a fine combination of man-made and natural landscape is an attractive tourist area in the centre of Sapa town.

Wandering stone paths leads tourists to wild peach forest, then orchid gardens with more than 6000 orchid plants belonging to 194 kinds. 

Sapa lake, adjacent the administrative area of the town, is considered the green lung of the tourism paradise.
