10 outstanding buildings of Vietnam in pictures
The National Assembly House, Keangnam, Lotte, and Bitexco towers, and My Dinh National Stadium are among the largest projects in Vietnam in recent years.
The National Assembly House is located on the road of Doc Lap (Independence) in Ba Dinh District. The 39m building, with a square shape, is inside the campus of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. This was the first large office building of central agencies being built after the country’s unification (1975). The building has three-storey underground car park for over 500 vehicles, with an area of 17,000 m2. The tunnel connecting the National Assembly House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is 60m long, with two lanes for pedestrians and cars. Completed in early October 2014, the building served the 8th session of the National Assembly. |
The Vietnam National Conference Center at 57 Pham Hung is the largest construction complex in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Construction began in November 2004 and the work was completed after 22 months on a total area of 64,000 m2, at a cost of VND4.3 trillion. It was designed by Gerkan, Marg and Partners. The first event held here was the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in December 2006. It has become a venue for important political, cultural, scientific events of the country. |
My Dinh National Stadium is a multi-use stadium built in Tu Liem District, Hanoi. It has a capacity of 40,192 seats and is the centerpiece of Vietnam's National Sports Complex. It was officially opened in September 2003 and was the main venue for the Southeast Asian Games later that year. |
Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower is a skyscraper in Pham Hung Boulevard, Tu Liem District, Hanoi. The complex consists of one 72-story office tower with the height of 350 m and two 48-storey residence towers. The investor as well as the executor and operator of this complex is the Republic of Korea-based company named Keangnam Enterprises, Ltd. The investment capital for this complex is estimated US$1.05 billion. Upon its completion, it was the 17th tallest building in the world. It is now the tallest building in Vietnam. |
The 65-store Lotte Building was inaugurated on the National Day 2014 on Dao Tan Street, Ba Dinh District. With the height of 267m, Lotte Center Hanoi overcomes the BITEXCO Financial Tower in Saigon to be the second highest building in Vietnam, after the 336m Hanoi Landmark Tower. |
Located in District 1, HCM City, Bitexco Financial Tower covers nearly 6,100 square meters and required an investment of US$400 million. On the tower’s 50th floor, there is a helicopter pad. The tower began operation on October 31, 2010 as the tallest building in Vietnam at that time and now ranks third after the Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower and Lotte Hanoi Center. It was ranked by the US Committee for High-rise Buildings as one of the world’s greatest skyscrapers. |
The 36-storey Da Nang Administrative Center in the central city of Danang is designed like a lighthouse overlooking the sea. This is Danang's tallest building, with a total cost of VND2 trillion (US$95.3 million). It is the headquarters of all government agencies in the city. The administrative center is the working place of 1,800 government officials of Danang, and it is expected to welcome about 600 people for administrative transactions every day. |
