The 2011 National ‘Ngo’ Boat Racing Championships, one of the traditional cultural activities of the Khmer ethnic group in the Mekong Delta, concluded on August 20 after two days of enthusiastic competition.

This year’s competition, held by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism, and the Hau Giang provincial Department of Sports, Culture and Tourism, included four events and ten boat teams from five Mekong Delta provinces.

The organizers awarded four first prizes, four second prizes and six third prizes to the winning teams, with a total of 300 gold and silver medals, and 450 bronze medals being presented to 1,050 athletes.

The Kien Giang team took first place in both the women’s 600m and 1,000m events while the Giong Rieng-Kien Giang won first prize in the men’s 800m event.
