Vietnamese cuisine gains global spotlight in 2025

Vietnam has once again strengthened its position on the global culinary map, earning 96.67 points to rank fourth among the world’s 15 most enticing food destinations in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2025. The rankings are based on travellers’ authentic experiences and feedback rather than evaluations by a judging panel, lending the results strong credibility.

The country outperformed regional neighbours such as Thailand and Malaysia to be named Asia’s Best Culinary Destination at the World Culinary Awards 2025. Vietnam also received honours in two additional categories, with Hanoi recognised as Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination and the Capella Hanoi Hotel voted World’s Best Brunch Venue.

Vietnamese cuisine made a strong impression on international audiences in 2025, as a number of dishes captured the attention of food connoisseurs around the world. Phở bò (beef noodle soup) secures the 93rd position on the TasteAtlas list of the world’s 100 best dishes for 2025.

In another ranking, TasteAtlas listed Bún bò Nam Bộ (southern Vietnamese beef noodles) among the world’s top 100 noodle dishes, placing it fifth globally. Bánh mì is (baguette) gaining increasing global recognition for its culinary appeal. CNN Travel, the travel and lifestyle division of CNN, ranks the Vietnamese dish second among the world’s 25 most delicious sandwiches. The dish is also placed seventh on TasteAtlas’ list of Asia’s best-rated street foods..

This year, TasteAtlas ranks Vietnam 16th among the world’s 100 best cuisines, rising three places from 2024 and six from 2023. The platform praises Vietnamese cuisine for its diversity and distinctive flavours, highlighting signature dishes such as phở (noodles), bánh mì (baguette) ), bánh xèo (crispy pancake), chả giò (fried spring rolls), quẩy (crullers), and bò kho (beef stew). Within Southeast Asia, Indonesia leads the regional rankings at 10th globally, followed by Vietnam (16th) and Thailand (24th).

TasteAtlas also releases its 2025–2026 list of the world’s 100 best dishes, in which Vietnam is represented by two entries: bún bò Nam Bộ (southern Vietnamese beef noodle salad), ranked 81st, and phở bò (beef noodle soup), ranked 83rd.

The recognition comes as Vietnam continues to gain traction as a culinary destination. UK travel magazine Time Out also lists the country among the world’s 20 best winter destinations for food in the 2025–26 season.
