On January 2 alone, traffic police citywide check thousands of vehicles and penalise 107 drink-driving violations. Several cases exceed the highest legal threshold of 0.4 milligrams per litre of breath, including one cyclist recorded at level two.

Hanoi police report 342 drink-driving violations over two days after inspecting more than 14,000 vehicles.
