Three Bengal tiger cubs born at safari park in Vietnam

The management board of FLC Zoo Safari Park Quy Nhon on April 22 confirms that a mother tiger of the Asian Bengal tiger species has given birth to three healthy cubs at the zoo.

According to Nguyen Ham Minh Duc, who is in charge of animal care at the zoo, the cubs are being exclusively nursed by their mother and are closely monitored by zookeepers. They will be allowed to eat meat when they are about 45 days old.

During the period of maternal care, human intervention in the enclosure is kept to a minimum. Cleaning and health checks are carried out daily to promptly detect and address any signs of abnormality, Duc says.

The zoo will set up a separate display area for tiger cubs in the pet zone, giving visitors the opportunity to admire them up close during the coming April 30-May 1 holiday.

The Bengal tiger is normally found in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, China, and Nepal. The world is currently home to as few as 3,200 white tigers following a sharp reduction since 1990.

WWF Vietnam estimates that there are around 370–400 captive tigers in zoos and private facilities across the country. Most of them are Indochinese tigers, with a smaller proportion being Bengal tigers kept for display, tourism, or breeding.
