Photo exhibition re-enacts US Ambassadors Fund sponsored cultural projects

The exhibition themed “The US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation – Two Decades of Cooperation with Vietnam” opens in Hanoi on November 23 as part of projects to preserve cultural heritage in less developed countries. The projects include protecting historic buildings, archaeological sites, ethnographic objects, paintings, manuscripts, along with indigenous languages and other forms of traditional cultural expression.

Since 2001, the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) has supported more than 1,000 projects in order to protect and preserve cultural heritage in more than 650 communities across 133 countries. In Vietnam, the AFCP has awarded funding to 16 such projects nationwide, totaling US$1,246,775 over the past 20 years.

Through the AFCP, the United States is committed to preserving cultural heritage globally and at the same time showing respect for other cultures. Photographed is an image taken from a Vietnamese project which preserves traditional lacquer paintings.

The exhibition jointly organised by the US Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum, and the Center for Research and Promotion of Cultural Heritage under the auspices of the Cultural Heritage Association of Vietnam will last through to November 26.
