Steel exports prove mettle with continued growth

VOV.VN - After seeing a decline in April, steel exports rebounded by 5.6% to US$251.9 million in May, bringing the total export value in the first five months of 2018 to US$1.1 billion, a year-on-year rise of 39.9%, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Vietnamese steel products were exported to 34 countries and territories, of which Southeast Asia accounted for a 22.8% market share, the EU 22.8%, and other countries 17.4%. The US led in imports of Vietnamese products at US$181.4 million, trailed by Japan with US$161.8 million.

The general picture shows that steel exports to most markets saw an upward swing. Some markets saw particularly strong growth of more than 100% such as India, Myanmar, Thailand, France and Spain. India was the highest growth market, ballooning by more than 270% to US$73.1 million.

At the other end of the scale was Norway, which suffered a sharp drop of 97.13% or more than US$260,000.
