Imports in 7 months surge

(VOV) - Vietnam had to import US$463 million worth of pesticides and raw materials in the first seven months of this year.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), more than US$1.2 billion worth of pharmaceutical products were imported in the period.

Although the fertiliser industry has developed robustly with several big factories like Ca Mau and Phu My, the sector still imported 2.4 million tonnes of fertilizers valued at over US$789 million.

The MoIT also reported that the country had to spend more than US$814 million on importing different kinds of paper.

Data released by other industries also showed that the national economy depends much on imported materials.

For example, the garment sector imported US$5.9 billion of fabric, US$2.9 billion of materials for garment and footwear production and around US$1 billion of cotton.

In the period, imports of other products also increased high, for instance vegetables and fruits (VND6,000 billion), and confectionary and grain products (VND2,000 billion).
