The 10th Ordinary Session of the sixth National Assembly of the Lao PDR closed on December 23 by announcing a reshuffle of top state leaders, state media reports said.

Pany Yathotu, vice president of the Lao National Assembly, had been promoted to President of the Lao National Assembly, replacing Thongsing Thammavong, and Thongsing Thammavong had been appointed as Lao Prime Minister, replacing Bouasone Bouphavan, the Lao National TV reported.

The appointment of the new prime minister was aimed at improving the cabinet in implementing the state's roles and duties, and also ensuring the political stability and basic social security, the Lao News Agency (KPL) quoted Thongsing as saying.

Thongsing, new Prime Minister, pledged to contribute to the realization of the 7th five-year (2011-2015) plan for socio- economic development and the 2010-2011 budget plan, according to the KPL.

He vowed to make the government work more effectively, harmoniously and unitarily, and to strictly tackle negative phenomena among civil servants. He also promised to continue implementing the constant foreign policy of the Party and state.
