Japan agreed with five countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) to promote transnational cooperation for energy security at a meeting of economic ministers from five GMS nations in Indonesia on August 14.

They agreed to build a transnational electricity network and supply system between five GMS nations.

At the meeting, Japanese representatives proposed considering the actual state of electric supplies in the region.

The ministers also agreed to create a schedule for implementing the project under the action plan for improving regional economic infrastructure put forward in 2010.

They said they will make the most of public private partnerships (PPPs) when drawing up policies and building infrastructure.
