Seminar discusses new path for Vietnam, OECD cooperation

(VOV) - A seminar on November 18 in Hanoi discussed innovative approaches to how the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Vietnam might better work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems.

In a speech at the opening, Assistant Minister H E Vu Quang Minh of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Vietnam first joined the OECD in 2008 and ever since has undergone a comprehensive assessment of its policies on agriculture, science, technology and investment.

Mr Minh affirmed the government looks forward to continued and expanded consultation on issues that affect the everyday lives of its citizens and assistance with improving how the school systems readies its young people for life in a modernized world.

Alessandro Goglio of the OECD in turn stressed that the Vietnam government is to be applauded for the significant progress it has made thus far in its movement to a more industrialized nation and achievements in alleviating poverty.

On behalf of the OECD, he expressed his pleasure with assisting the Vietnam government set priorities in order to help achieve the goals of sustainable development during the period 2016-2020.
