The Indonesian government has ratified an ASEAN-Australia and New Zealand Free Trade agreement, said Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa on May 10.

The minister announced that the free trade implementation will start this year, but the some post-tariff implementation would be gradual, up to 2015.

This agreement will bring benefits for the Indonesian people, so the government decided on the ratification as scheduled, before the ASEAN Summit, he said.

Minister Rajasa said the agreement stipulated that products imported from Australia and New Zealand were complementary.

Products that can be produced in Indonesia may not be imported from Australia or New Zealand and vice versa, he added.

Indonesia’s previous activity in free trade includes ASEAN-China Free Trade, which helps increase Indonesia's total exports.
