The municipal flood and storm control board said on November 27 that high tides have affected nearly 1,400 households in inner and outlying districts of Ho Chi Minh City.

The high tides, which destroyed 41 sections of dykes with a total length of 167m, have also flooded 485ha of farms and aquaculture areas around the city.

Municipal authorities have ordered a prompt repair of weak dyke sections and the implementation of environmental sanitation measures to reduce the tides’ effect on city-dwellers.

Weather forecasters said torrential rain in the upper reaches of the Sai Gon and Dong Nai rivers would also add to the flooding in parts of HCM City’s outlying districts of Thu Duc, 12 and Hoc Mon.
