Four Italian soldiers died following an attack in western Afghanistan in the morning of October 9, officials said.
Their armored vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device and firearm in the Farah area, and one more Italian soldier was severely injured, the Italian Defense Ministry said.
Italy has about 3,400 soldiers in Afghanistan, according to NATO's International Security Assistance Force.
