European Union (EU) leaders and representatives of the Eastern Partnership countries arrived in Warsaw on September 29 to attend a summit on September 29 and 30.

The Eastern Partnership summit starts on the evening of September 29. Two plenary sessions are planned for Friday morning.

Five Eastern Partnership countries are represented in Warsaw -- Ukraine by President Viktor Yanukovych, Georgia by President Mikheil Saakashvili, Azerbaijan by President Ilham Aliyev, Armenia by President Serzh Sargsyan and Moldova by Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

The Belausian ambassador to Poland will attend the summit, Poland's EU presidency spkesperson said.

The Polish-Swedish Eastern Partnership initiative, inaugurated in 2009, is aimed to tighten cooperation between the EU and six former Soviet Union members, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The Eastern Partnership summit is one of the major events under Poland's current six-month EU presidency.

The summit is expected to adopt a declaration acknowledging the "European aspirations" of EU's eastern partners, promising gradual transition to visa-free traffic and gradual integration with the EU market.
