At 16:30 pm (Hanoi time), delegates to the 10th National Party Congress voted to elect a new Party Central Committee (PCC) for the 10th tenure.
The congress elected 160 official members to the 10th PCC from the list of 207 candidates, which was short-listed at the morning’s working session.
Included on the list were two self-nominated candidates, namely Nguyen Phu Binh (Deputy Foreign Minister) and Prof Nguyen Xuan Han (from the Hanoi National University). The congress also elected 25 alternate members out of 46 candidates to the 10th PCC.
Six Politburo members of the 10th PCC were introduced for re-nomination, including Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Secretary of the HCM City Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Minh Triet, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, Head of the Central Committee for Economic Affairs Truong Tan Sang and Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh, said Mr Quat
In the evening of the same day, a 39-member vote counting board headed by Vice National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van Yeu started to count the votes.
The results of election to the 10th PCC will be announced on April 24.
Also on April 24, the congress will hear the results of opinions contributed by delegates to congress documents and will vote for approval of these documents.
The first congress of the 10th PCC will elect the Political Bureau, the Secretariat, the Central Inspection Committee and Director of the Central Inspection Committee.On April 25, the lists of members elected to the 10th PCC, the Political Bureau, the Secretariat and the Party General Secretary will be announced and the Party leader will host a press briefing following the congress’ closing ceremony.
