Eight civilians were killed and five people including four policemen and one civilian injured in a bomb attack in southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Sunday, an official said.

"The two blasts occurred in a span of minutes in Arghandab district when people were busy in dog fighting on a ground," district governor Shah Mohammad Ahmadi said.

He blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants by Afghan officials.

An eyewitness who declined to be identified said that the casualties could be higher than reported.

Police have cordoned off the area and begun investigation.
