WTO supports Vietnam in int’l economic integration
(VOV) - The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is willing to assist Vietnam in the international economic integration process for the benefit of a member nation and the global economy.
WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo made the affirmation at a reception for a Vietnamese delegation from the Vietnam Ministry of Finance led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Cong Nghiep in Switzerland on October 21.
WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo also spoke highly of the Southeast Asian nation’s important role in the international community.
At the function, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Cong Nghiep briefed participants on the nation’s economic development and international trade over the years. He emphasized its import-export turnover has increased remarkably since the country acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007.
Deputy Minister Nghiep also said the Vietnamese Government has been speeding up administrative reforms on tax and customs policies to facilitate import-export activities. He expressed his wish that the WTO will continue to support Vietnam in the process of international economic integration
The delegation also met with representatives of the World Trade Institute (WTI) in Switzerland. The WTI Managing Director expressed his hope to have an opportunity to train and enhance capacity for the Vietnam Ministry of Finance’s field staff.
He also discussed the impact of the international economic integration on the socio-economic development of the country to help Vietnam make proper adjustments to fully tap advantages of international integration.
