Workshop seeks to facilitate Vietnamese investment in Cambodia

Addressing the event, Chea Vuthy, secretary general of the Cambodian Investment Board, introduced Cambodian investment policies and co-operation mechanisms to draw investment into the private sector.

Vuthy highly appreciated Vietnamese investors’ successful operations in Cambodia contributing to Cambodia’s economic development, assuring that the Cambodian Government would create more favourable conditions for foreign businesses, including those from Vietnam, to invest in the country.

In the first quarter of the year, Cambodia’s exports to Vietnam reached US$1.39 billion in value, up 53% year on year. At the same time, Vietnamese imports from Cambodia hit US$933 million, down 2.5% from the same period last year.

So far, Vietnam has had 206 valid investment projects in the Cambodian market, with a total registered capital of around US$2.95 billion, thereby maintaining the leading position in ASEAN and becoming one of the five largest investors in the neighbouring country.

Vietnamese investment activities in Cambodia are mainly in the fields of agriculture, finance, banking, insurance, and telecommunications.

Currently, Cambodia has 31 investment projects in the Vietnamese market with a total registered capital of US$73 million, ranking 51st among 141 countries and territories investing in the country.
