VinFast partners with Indian firm to promote high-voltage battery recycling

Vietnam's largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast announced on July 11 that it has inked a strategic partnership agreement with BatX Energies, an Indian clean-tech company specialising in battery recycling, rare metal recovery, and second-life battery applications.

This collaboration lays the foundation for a sustainable battery value chain in India and underscores VinFast's strong commitment to developing an environmentally friendly e-vehicle ecosystem.

Under the agreement, BatX Energies will provide VinFast with comprehensive solutions for high-voltage (HV) battery recycling, including the recovery of materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, as well as battery repurposing at VinFast’s manufacturing facilities and after-sales network in India. The recovered materials will be reintegrated into the production process, helping to reduce reliance on mineral resources and promote a circular economy model.

This collaboration is part of VinFast’s strategy to localise its supply chain and optimise product life cycles in the Indian market, where the electric vehicle industry is experiencing rapid growth. The two parties aim to jointly develop sustainable and scalable solutions that generate long-term value for society and the environment.

Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated that for VinFast, sustainable development is not merely a choice but a core principle throughout the entire product life cycle. He said that the partnership with BatX marks an important step in building a circular battery ecosystem, reducing pressure on natural resources, and contributing to realising India’s green mobility goals.

Utkarsh Singh, CEO of BatX Energies, said that the partnership reflects a shared belief in responsible innovation. He hoped that the collaboration will practically contribute to the sustainable battery industry and support the development of a scalable battery recycling system.

Alongside technical collaboration, VinFast is gradually expanding its partner network in India to build a sustainable operational foundation. Previously, it signed an agreement with Global Assure for roadside assistance services, and partnered with myTVS and RoadGrid to develop after-sales services and charging infrastructure.

VinFast is expected to officially launch its two premium e-vehicle models, the VF 6 and VF 7, in India. To support this strategy, the company is accelerating the construction of its manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, while also strengthening service capabilities, expanding its dealership network, and investing in charging infrastructure, aiming to become a leading EV brand in the South Asian market.
